Sudan President urges the held of national conference on Darfur

Sunday June 13th, 2004.

KHARTOUM, June 12, 2004 (SUNA) -- President of the Republic Gen. Omer Al-Bashir has urged the national committee for preparation to the National Conference for Development and Peaceful Co-existence in Darfur to speed up its work for convocation of the conference as soon as possible.

This came when President Al-Bashir received Saturday at the Guest House chairman of the committee, Izz-Eddin Al-Sayed, and his deputy Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim, who acquainted President Al-Bashir with the preparations for holding the conference.

In a statement to SUNA after the meeting, Al-Sayed indicated that the committee has finalized its work to provide appropriate climate for the conference, adding that more than 1000 persons are due to participate in the conference.

He said that the committee has completed working papers on social issues, enhancing the social fabric between tribes, surpassing the bitterness of war and realization of development in Darfur.

Al-Sayed stated that the preparatory committee is engaged in efforts to invite citizens of Darfur, in and outside Sudan, to take part in the National Conference on Development and Peaceful Co-existence on Darfur, toward reaching peaceful solution for the Darfur issues.
